Temporary exhibition
The other half. Women in art
Francotto House - Busca (CN)

From Saturday 7.10.2023 to Sunday 10.03.2024
Women in art: in the common imagination, inspirational muses on the one hand and protagonists of immortal works on the other. The art world has been, almost exclusively, a male universe and as in many other fields, it has not been easy for women to get the space they deserve.
Until the 16th century, women's contributions were limited to book illustration, embroidery or miniature work on copper or ivory used in goldsmithing. It was not until the 16th and 17th centuries, in Renaissance art, that there was a first and limited recognition of female figures who, with difficulty, managed to break through and make their way in an environment hitherto dominated only by men.
The aim of the exhibition is to celebrate, by means of exhibition panels, the women artists who, starting in the 17th century, succeeded in being among the most important artists of the period due to their innate aptitudes and abilities. The exhibition has been curated by Cinzia Tesio and Rino Tacchella
