Rich in history, Aosta is called the 'Rome of the Alps' and holds a rich heritage of art, culture and traditions.

Founded in 25 B.C. as Augusta Praetoria, in honour of Emperor Octavian Augustus, preserves a large part of the original city walls and a prestigious archaeological area between the Porta Praetoria, a perfectly preserved majestic entrance to the city, and the Roman theatreone of the most significant testimonies of the period.
Don't miss the Forensic cryptoportica Roman underground building that amazes with its atmosphere. La Early Christian Basilica of San Lorenzo, built to house the tombs of the first bishops of Aostan, stands beneath the deconsecrated Church of San Lorenzo, the venue for art exhibitions.
The MAR - Regional Archaeological Museumlocated in a neoclassical building that houses valuable archaeological collections and important temporary art exhibitions. L'Megalithic area of Aosta, one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Europe, which has recently reopened to the public with new spaces and installations.
And again, the Cathedral and the Collegiate Church of Saints Peter and Bear which contain works of art from the Middle Ages such as the 11th century frescoes in the attic, the floor mosaics, and the wooden choir. In the Cathedral you can also visit the Treasure Museumwhile at the Collegiate Church the wonderful cloister with its sculpted capitals is not to be missed.

The map is available at the tourist office in Aosta and the main museums, and at Infopiemonte in Piazza Castello in Turin.

This second edition of AMagazine wants to tell the city of Aostahighlighting their cultural heritage, routes and opportunities for citizens and visitors to experience with the Abbonamento Musei. The webzine is completed by images of the sites that subscribers have photographed during their visits and shared on social networks.
