Franco Cardini at Hiroshima Mon Amour

Monday 16 November 2026, the Hiroshima Mon Amour in Turin is hosting a special evening organised in collaboration with Theatre Assembly: the historian and essayist Franco Cardini will be the main speaker at the meeting «Europe and Islam: cosmopolitan centres, shifting boundaries, areas of contact and confrontation».

The project: observing reality from the margins

The event forms part of Along the Edges, the cultural project supported by the public call for proposals Constituencies – what a live show…! 2026 of the City of Turin. The initiative stems from a genuine shift in perspective: whilst the city centre has always been the place where models and norms are concentrated, the suburbs and the “peripheries” can become prime spaces for discovering new ideas, narratives and identities. Through theatre, music and contemporary art, the project gives a voice to experiences that are often under-represented, promoting active citizenship and social interaction.

The meeting: the Mediterranean as a space for connection

In this vision of borders no longer as barriers, but as fluid territories of transformation and exchange, Franco Cardini’s reflections will guide the audience beyond the concept of separate and impermeable civilisations. At the heart of the talk will be cosmopolitan centres and areas of contact where, over the centuries, knowledge, exchanges and mutual influences have intertwined, restoring the Mediterranean to its historic role as a bridge between peoples and cultures.
