Temporary exhibition
Sheila Hicks / Piero Dorazio. Interlacing Colours
PAC - Pavilion of Contemporary Art - Milan (MI)
From Tuesday 17 November 2026 to Sunday 14.02.2027
The exhibition project staged in the Project Room It stems from a previously unpublished account of the first meeting between the extraordinary textile artist Sheila Hicks and the abstract painter Piero Dorazio, which took place in Milan at May 1962. The dialogue highlights the profound formal harmony and the visually inspired structural framework that unites the work of these two masters of colour theory. At the heart of the exhibition lies a shared fascination with the’interplay of colours, expressed by Piero Dorazio through its characteristic overlapping pictorial grids and by Sheila Hicks through the three-dimensional manipulation of materials and textile fibres.
The route also features a’site-specific artwork realised by Sheila Hicks in honour of Piero Dorazio, alongside two of the artist’s earlier works created between 1960 and the 1961 a Rancho Miel a Taxco el Viejo at Mexico, serving as direct evidence of this influential stylistic convergence. The exhibition offers a critical and intimate exploration of how the dialogue between painting and textile art has charted new paths in the contemporary art scene.
