European Dynasties on Lake Como

To mark the bicentenary of the birth of Duke George II of Saxe-Meiningen, Villa Carlotta is offering a series of themed guided tours to explore the contents and background of the exhibition European Dynasties on Lake Como. The Princess of the Netherlands and the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen at Villa Carlotta.

The three tours explore different aspects of the house’s life and history:

• 7 November – Faces and private lives: An exploration of the most private lives of the owners (Marianna of Orange-Nassau, Charlotte of Prussia and George II) through documents, photographs and period artefacts.
• 21 November – Guests at the Villa: Accompanied by archivist and lecturer Tiziana Danelli, a journey to discover the illustrious figures who visited the villa towards the end of the 19th century.
• 8 December – Villa Carlotta as a Wunderkammer: A fascinating insight into the spaces inhabited by the family and their guests, through the furnishings and historical artefacts, offering a glimpse into the vibrant cultural life and international relations of the time.
