Contemporary Declinations #4

Since November, to mark Artissimathe MAO Museum of Oriental Art, Turin is hosting the fourth edition of the project, which was launched to foster an ongoing dialogue between the’contemporary art with the permanent collections and the historic sites of Palazzo Mazzonis. The festival is presented as a dynamic programme of artist residencies e site-specific commissions, designed to reinterpret memory and cultural heritage through the perspectives and languages of the present. The museum thus ceases to be a mere exhibition space and is transformed into a active space, open to participatory, collaborative and emotional relationships with visitors.

Artistic interventions breathe new life into the works on display, freeing them from a state of static contemplation and reintegrating them into different narratives. No longer isolated artefacts, but objects that reclaim their own ritual, religious and funerary significance to raise questions about the most pressing issues of our time. The five international artists involved – Gala Porras-Kim, Elif Uras, Dayanita Singh, Sissel Tolaas e Driant Zeneli – explore the themes of conservationof the art marketof the memory and the care economies. Via site-specific installations, ceramics, photography, video e olfactory research, the building becomes a narrative canvas, ready to embrace new paths Eurasian.
