At school in Villa della Regina

Did you know that Villa della Regina wasn’t just a royal residence? For over seventy years, between 1869 and 1943, its halls were home to hundreds of young women who studied and lived here as pupils of the’National Institute for the Daughters of Italian Military Personnel.

From October, this chapter of history will be brought to life in the new permanent exhibition “At school in Villa della Regina”: an exhibition itinerary that takes visitors on a journey of discovery into the everyday lives of the young boarders, through uniforms, exercise books, photographs, letters, personal belongings and intriguing mementos of the time spent within the Villa’s walls.

Among the items on display, you can admire:

• A vintage ceremonial uniform
• Honorary awards awarded to the most deserving female students
• School documents and past school reports
• Little notes and messages kept and exchanged amongst schoolmates

A special event designed for families, who will be able to view the Villa from a new perspective and imagine the lives of the young girls who, amidst lessons, friendships and strict rules, lived in these historic rooms over a century ago.
