Davide Toffolo, In Pasolini’s Own Words

The exhibition welcomes visitors to the galleries of the’Opera Mortai at Fortress of Bard, in Aosta Valley, offering a visual and conceptual journey that retraces the famous graphic novel dedicated to Pier Paolo Pasolini by the graphic designer Davide Toffolo. Through around a hundred original plates, drawings, collage, photographs, documents e period materials, the exhibition brings to the fore the voice of the famous Italian poet and film director without resorting to a straightforward biographical narrative or didactic aims.

The narrative and existential journey begins in Versuta, hamlet of Casarsa della Delizia, before winding its way through Bologna, Rome, l'Etna, Grado and ideally end at Madrid. Along this journey, the fundamental themes of Pasolini’s work – such as the poetrythe cinema, the policy, the bourgeoisiethe body and the memory – intertwine in a symbolic, almost initiatory dialogue between the author and his character.

Visitors have the chance to explore rare material, including photographs by the leading Italian photographers, the storyboards and the storyboard drawn by Pasolini for The Earth as seen from the Moon, the drawings relating to the Live concert of the band The Three Merry Dead Boys and a previously unreleased track video interview realised by Annapaola Martin. The comics It thus becomes an extraordinary philosophical tool, poetic e civil, capable of conveying the profound relevance of Pasolini’s thought today.
