La Vittoria in Brescia
40 photographers and an eternal beauty
MUSEUM OF SAINT JULIA - Brescia (BS)
includedFrom Friday 17 July 2026 to Sunday 1.11.2026
The exhibition, curated by Giovanna Calvenzi and promoted by Municipality of Brescia, Brescia Musei Foundation e Culture Alliance in collaboration with the Cavallerizza - Centre of Italian Photography, kicks off the programme of events dedicated to Bicentenary of the discovery of the Winged Victory. The exhibition brings together works by 40 photographers, among the best-known and most representative figures on the contemporary creative and figurative art scene, invited to engage with the famous Roman bronze masterpiece in Brescia.
Each of these masters has interpreted the Winged Victory in accordance with his own stylistic approach and visual perspective, transforming the sculpture into an iconographic atlas and a pretext for expressive exploration that goes beyond mere documentation to become creative experience. Among the big names involved are Gabriele Basil, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Marcella Campagnano, Silvia Camporesi, Giovanni Chiaramonte, Francesco Cito, Giovanni Gastel, Franco Fontana, Carlo Mari e Paolo Ventura.
The forty visions present the sculpture either emphasised in its imposing Greco-Roman lines, or seemingly slipping out of the frame, to the point of becoming the focal point of pictorial reconstructions, multiple decompositions, close-up details or innovative reinterpretations through the’Artificial Intelligence. The exhibition thus offers a valuable insight into the contemporary photography, paying tribute to an immortal icon of art through forty artists’ perspectives.
