Dialogues. Craftwork and devotional images

The itinerary of the widespread exhibition project curated by L’Artisanà and the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and Activities reaches at the stage in Introduction its most evocative moment, devoted entirely to the theme of Return. In this region, the landscape becomes the guardian of historical and spiritual memories that are reunited, both symbolically and physically, with the places where they originated.

Inside the picturesque Chapel of the Holy Shroud In fact, it marks the return of the historic canvas depicting the Holy Shroud, Saint Erasmus, Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian, returned precisely to the sacred space for which it was originally intended. The exhibition narrative is greatly enriched by the famous wooden sculptures by Giovanni Thoux, works of art closely linked to the summer holidays spent by St John Paul II in the nearby town of Les Combes. Alongside these, visitors can admire the precious Pastoral Letter by Monsignor Alberto Maria Careggio, which makes its ideal return to the very land where it was carved by skilled craftsmen. With this new and important exhibition season, the’Aosta Valley crafts reaffirms its unbreakable bond with the local area: the MAV Museum of Valle d’Aosta Crafts It has chosen to take its extensive collections out of traditional museum galleries and place them directly within the spaces of collective memory. Outdoors, along the paths of the Introd Castle Park, a fascinating photographic tour broadens our perspective to encompass the entire historical, artistic and landscape heritage of the Aosta Valley.

The historical images on display are not intended to freeze the narrative in the past, but rather serve as open doors and trails to follow – an explicit invitation to visitors to continue their journey of discovery through the castles, chapels, villages and churches of the entire Alpine region.
