At the Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation at Asti The eagerly awaited exhibition dedicated to the creative world of the Piedmontese master is now open to the public. The exhibition presents the public with a previously unseen and invaluable a collection of twenty-six plaster sculptures and twenty-six drawings on paper, made from the 1980s right up to the present day. These carefully selected works have been generously donated by the sculptor from Turin to the Asti-based foundation, which will from now on house them permanently as part of its prestigious art collection.
La reality and the contemplation deeper layers constantly inspire the expressive and formal poetics of Sergio Unia. Born in Mondovì Fortress, the author has demonstrated this sensitivity ever since his stylistic beginnings during the 1970s. His career has developed through the systematic assimilation of the ancient artistic tradition and his regular visits to the plasterworks of his great ideological mentors. As one moves through the exhibition, it becomes clear that the persistent practice of reproduction from life, the meticulous anatomical study and ongoing technical experimentation on the fragile materials – such as the waxthe chalk and theclay – have led the artist to exceptional achievements. Through no fewer than five decades of constant teaching and research, Unia’s artistic journey has culminated in an extraordinary linguistic purity and to a’lyrical simplicity unique, elements which find their fullest and definitive expression in his famous bronze castings. The exhibition, carefully curated by Marida Faussone, offers an unmissable insight into the evolution of contemporary sculpture in the region.
