Marc Chagall: Between Poetry and Spirituality

In the exhibition halls of the Aosta Regional Archaeological Museum, an extraordinary exhibition is presented, organised in partnership with the Marc Chagall National Museum, Nice, the only public institution dedicated exclusively to the Russian maestro. The exhibition, curated by Grégory Couderc, Anne Dopffer e Alberto Fiz, presents a selection of 120 works, including paintings, sculptures, gouaches, drawings, lithographs, books and ceramics created between 1922 and 1890. The exhibition itinerary allows visitors to analyse the work of Marc Chagall through a fresh interpretation of his relationship with the sacred, a deeply personal, complex and highly topical issue in the contemporary context.

Among the masterpieces on display, there are works of great significance and emotional impact, such as the paintings for the sketch of The Song of Songs III, The Prophet Isaiah e David’s Tower, displayed alongside historic works from the 1930s such as The Circumcision of Abraham o Joseph recognised by his brothers. The exhibition is divided into eight sections that trace the artist’s stylistic evolution and his fascination with Bible, which he regarded as the greatest source of poetry of all time.

The tour highlights the cycle of the Biblical Message, which conveys a universal message aimed at a symbolic regeneration of humanity. The event combines entertainment and public engagement with scientific and philological research, highlighting the work of one of the greatest figures in the Twentieth century. The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue, in Italian and French, published by Allemandi.
