MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO DI NOVARA
includedAfter almost twenty years of closurethe Archaeological Museum of Novara back to life within the walls of the Visconteo-Sforzesco Castle. And it does so with an unexpected approach: not a simple chronological review of exhibits, but a narrative that puts people at the centre, the stories and passions behind the collections.
It all starts in the’Nineteenth century, with the birth of the Archaeological Society for the Novarese Patriotic Museum. In a pioneering era, scholars, enthusiasts and ordinary citizens mobilised to saving what emerged from the ground during agricultural or construction work: fragments of a past in danger of being lost forever. The first donations of collectors and local personalities formed the original core of a heritage destined to grow over time.
The new museum route turns each artefact into an open window: on the’evolution of antiquarian thinking, on the practices of heritage protection and how a community builds, and guards, its memory. An experience that weaves archaeology, history and civic identity, giving Novara a long-awaited place of culture.
