Metamorphosis of the gaze. The Imaginative Alps

The exhibition is part of the cross-border project DAHU , an initiative uniting Italy and France by involving the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aostathe Municipality of Issimethe Fortress of Bardthe Department of Haute Savoie and the Community of Municipalities of the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley. The exhibition, curated by Aldo Audisio, declines the project's aims from an artistic and scientific point of view, offering an enriched vision ranging from the art history to thearchaeology. The exhibition route is divided into six sections and brings together a selection of over 70 works stylistically heterogeneous, including paintings, drawings e posters.

This choral tale explores the evolution of the mountain landscape between the late 18th and mid-20th century. From the iconographies related to the pastoral life and natural elements, the narrative arrives at the new forms of anthropisation linked to the tourism and the winter sports. The iconographic research, conducted by a team of researchers, sifted through more than 400 works in public and private archives of the Aosta Valley and the Chamonix Valley, documenting changes related to the global warming and the action of man. As emphasised by the institutions, these lands become an open-air laboratory where culture provides an understanding of the fragility of the mountain world. Finally, the exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual volume in Italian and French.
