The exceptional site-specific installation conceived by the Swiss artist Peter Fischli is a visual and conceptual investigation of extraordinary emotional and intellectual impact. Produced and commissioned directly by the Agnelli Art Gallery, the work unfolds along the striking ramp of the’former FIAT factory at Lingotto a Turin, a symbolic place of 20th century modernity and industrial production. The artistic intervention takes as its starting point the stereotypical image of tourist trains on wheels, devices usually associated with a guided and standardised urban consumption experience.
Peter Fischli radically breaks up these convoys, overturning and overturning their wagons to make them programmatically unserviceable. This fragmentation explicitly evokes the historical imagery of the Futurism and its reflections on speed, progress and automation. The work establishes an impossible path that runs vertically through the architecture of the building, metaphorically linking the commercial dimension of the structure's base with its cultural apex represented by the museum and the Track 500. In this scenario, the logical, repetitive and mathematical process of the Fordist assembly line is mirrored in the absurdity of a human experience reduced to a commodity to be consumed. The artist, also famous for his historical artistic association Fischli/Weiss, He thus continues his personal exploration of the boundaries between everyday reality and shared systems of meaning, forcing the visitor to reconsider the filters of attention with which he observes mass tourism and the enjoyment of contemporary historical and cultural memory.
