Xin Liu. EXHAUST

La Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundationin collaboration with K11 Art Foundation Hong Kong, presents the first Italian solo exhibition of Xin Liu, multidisciplinary artist and engineer whose research moves between technology, science e contemporary art. Under the curatorial advice of Hans Ulrich Obrist, project explores the concept of “exhaust” (discharge, residue), understood not as the end of a process, but as a generative element within what the artist calls “Cosmic Metabolism”. The works in the exhibition examine the consequences of human ambitions, looking at the debris accumulated between space exploration, bioplastics engineering e genetics.

The exhibition is structured around three key installations. The film The White Stone documents a mission to recover rocket fragments in the deserts of the Western China, interweaving future narrative and documentary reality about technological obsolescence. The work The Map: Karamay is a monumental tapestry made in Vivomer, one bioplastics degradation that maps the artist's hometown, a symbol of an extractive economy linked to the oil. Finally, The Lab serves as an operational repository, exposing models, diagrams and material tests that illustrate the organic degradation and failure of traditional monumentality. Through the use of sculptures, digital experiences e genetic material, Xin Liu transforms the landscapes of the’Anthropocene in a profound reflection on the transformation of matter between earth and space.
