Temporary exhibition
Queens on stage
Royal Palace of Venaria Reale - Venaria Reale (TO)
From Friday 17.04.2026 to Sunday 18.10.2026
The spectacular tale of how the cinematography, from its origins, has been able to shape and present the figure of the queen as a universal symbol of royalty, power, authority e charm. At the centre of this exhibition is the film costume, as a fundamental tool for constructing the image of sovereigns, often going beyond strict historical truth to the’universal archetype, between myth, chronicle and pure fantasy.
Visitors will have the opportunity to admire a careful selection of iconic clothes from historic tailoring ateliers, made for the biggest international productions. You will meet unforgettable figures such as the Marie Antoinette performed by Kirsten Dunst in the film by Sofia Coppola, with costumes by the award-winning Milena Canonero, or the tragic Medea by Maria Callas in the masterpiece by Pasolini, dressed as Piero Tosi. The journey continues in the atmospheres of the fantasy with the Queen of Selvascura from The Tale of Tales by Matteo Garrone, played by Salma Hayek with the creations of Massimo Cantini Parrini.
This exploration of the female sovereignty also allows an evocative return to the roots of the Venaria Reale, recalling the central role played in the 17th century by the duchesses Christina of France e Marie Jeanne Baptiste of Savoy Nemours. The exhibition, curated by Massimo Cantini Parrini - internationally renowned costume designer and winner of numerous David di Donatello - celebrates the craftsmanship and visual power of the great cinema.
