Lecco re-embraces Villa Manzoni

Restoration completed, city's iconic cultural centre reopens

News published on 31 March 2026

There is an invisible link that unites the Grigne, the lake branch and the rooms of a neoclassical villa in the heart of Lecco. From 3 April, that bond becomes tangible again: Villa Manzoni reopens its doors, returning to the city and the world not only a restored building, but the beating heart of Italian linguistic and literary identity.

A House-Museum that “speaks” to the visitor

Forget dusty notice boards. The new route of the Manzoniano Museum is a sensory journey. Among original furnishings, paintings and period volumes, the visitor is accompanied by multimedia installations and musical settings designed to revive the atmosphere of the 19th century.

The restoration has restored light to the noble staircase and transformed the old stables into modern, cosy spaces ready to accommodate a new generation of readers and onlookers.

A Museum for All: Breaking Down Barriers

The real novelty of this reopening is the’inclusiveness. Thanks to a new connection system between the floors, the Villa is finally accessible to those with mobility difficulties. It is not just a technical matter, but an act of civilisation: Manzoni's beauty and history become the heritage of everyone, without distinction.

The “Manzoniano Month”: a calendar of emotions

To celebrate the homecoming, from 3 April to 2 May the Villa comes alive with a series of free events that turn literature into entertainment and play:

  • Theatre within the walls: The actors of Theatre Invitation will give voice to the most famous songs of Betrothed with serial readings taking place throughout the month.
  • Music and Senses: On 12 April it will be possible to experience a “visit in half-light”, a guided sensory experience, while on 19 April the rooms will resound with cymbals, violins and saxophones for the “The Betrothed Sounds”.
  • For the little ones: Creative workshops and games to introduce children to the figure of Manzoni in a fun and stimulating way.

The invitation to the people of Lecco

To emphasise the deep connection between the villa and its territory, the municipality decided to offer the’free admission to all residents of Lecco for the entire month of reopening (until 2 May). A golden opportunity to regain possession of a space that is part of the collective memory of every citizen.
