A Sunday at the MAU

In the heart of Borgo Campidoglio, Turin's historic working-class district at the end of the 19th century, contemporary art meets popular memory and transforms the streets into an open-air gallery. This is where the MAU - Museum of Urban Art, a unique project in Italy that over time has contributed decisively to the cultural regeneration of the borough, bringing colour, creativity and new narratives to the public space. Today the district hosts more than 200 permanent works including murals, installations and site-specific interventions by Italian and international artists. A widespread heritage that dialogues with the historical architecture and the social identity of the territory, giving visitors an immersive experience of art, history and community. To discover this open-air museum, the cycle of guided tours kicks off A Sunday at the MAU, an itinerary that accompanies citizens and tourists through alleys, courtyards and painted façades, recounting the transformation of the district and the significance of the works. The visit represents a journey through time and space: from the borough's working-class past to its current cultural vocation, demonstrating how public art can become an instrument of memory, participation and urban regeneration.
