The Castello Sforzesco pays homage to Leonardo

Three special initiatives for Milan Cortina 2026

On the occasion of the Winter Olympic Games Milan Cortina 2026the Sforza Castle strengthens its role as a centre of excellence for the valorisation of the legacy of Leonardo da Vinci in Milan, presenting an articulated programme combining restoration, scientific research, technological innovation and new exhibition routes.

Three co-ordinated initiatives celebrate the long and profound bond between Leonardo and the Sforza family's Milan, offering the public unprecedented and highly engaging visitor experiences.

The Hall of the Axes: Guided tours of the restoration site

During the Olympic period there will be exceptional access to the Hall of Axes, a masterpiece decorated by Leonardo in the last years of the 15th century, thanks to a special guided tour programme on the last stretch of the restoration site.
Visitors will be able to climb up onto the scaffolding and observe the vault, the lunettes and the famous monochrome Leonardesque, accompanied by restorers and specialised guides.

Around Leonardo: the new Leonardo room in the Pinacoteca

From 21 January 2026 the Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco reopens to the public the Room XXI, completely refurbished and dedicated to the so-called leonardeschi: artists trained in Leonardo's workshop or profoundly influenced by his language.
The new itinerary emphasises Renaissance paintings, sculptures and medals, recent restorations and new acquisitions, enriched with multimedia content that helps to understand the spread of Leonardo's language in Milan.

An immersive installation in the Panoramic Rooms

As of 7 February 2026, in the Panoramic Halls of the Castle opens a new immersive multimedia installation dedicated to the history of the Sala delle Asse and Leonardo's role at the Sforza court.
Through high-impact visual projections and an engaging narrative, the itinerary accompanies the public in discovering the artistic significance and the complex conservation history of one of the most emblematic places of the Milanese Renaissance.
