The exhibition Orazio Gentileschi. A painter on a journey It represents a unique opportunity to discover the work of one of the leading figures of the Italian seventeenth century. Orazio Gentileschi, Born in Pisa in 1563, he enjoyed an extraordinary career that saw him rivaling artists of the calibre of Caravaggio, Rubens e Van Dyck. The exhibition, curated by Annamaria Bava e Gelsomina Spione, presents over 40 masterpieces from some of the most prestigious Italian and international collections: from the Louvre at Prado, from Uffizi at National Gallery of the Marche.
Through a route divided into geographical stages, visitors can follow the painter's artistic journey between Rome, Genoa, Turin, Paris e London, discovering the stylistic evolution that took him from mannerism to a Caravaggesque naturalism up to a painting by refined elegance and vibrant colours. Particular attention is given to the Turin period, with the exhibition of the’Annunciation (1623), performed for Charles Emmanuel I of Savoy and now preserved at the Sabauda Gallery, the true centrepiece of the exhibition.
The theme of journey becomes the common thread of a journey that explores not only Gentileschi's art, but also her relationships with artists, patrons and cultural contexts of the time. The exhibition is part of the programme of the’Milan Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympics, helping to enhance the value of the Italian cultural heritage in view of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
