AM Club | Casa Francotto, the Filatoio di Caraglio and the Newton exhibition

First stop at Francotto House, exhibition space of the City of Busca.

The building, in eclectic style, was built on the site of a pre-existing 18th-century structure. It is located in the historic centre. The façade, with its distinctive and characteristic design, overlooks Piazza Regina Margherita.

In his will, Dr. Francotto left all his possessions, including his birthplace, to the town of Busca. The house is currently hosting an exhibition. “The other half: women in art”.

The exhibition consists of historical panels that recount art in the second half of the 18th century and female artists born in the 19th century, leading up to the Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka (1898-1980), renowned above all for the refined style of her portraits from the 1930s, in full Art Deco style.

Guided tour of the Spinning mill of Caraglio, a 17th-century building of considerable architectural merit and a rare example of industrial archaeology. Today, it is the oldest silk manufacturing complex in Europe to combine both reeling and twisting operations, an important innovation in Piedmont that allowed for higher quality organza. This approach was a precursor to the “factory system”.

Free visit to the current exhibition “Helmut Newton. Intertwining” which traces the evolution of Newton's professional career, from the editorial photographs that established him among the greats of international fashion to the works commissioned by prestigious brands. Over 100 photographs, including iconic and lesser-known shots, from collaborations with Yves Saint Laurent, Wolford, Ca’ del Bosco, Blumarine, Absolut Vodka, Lavazza, and many others.
