Alchemy. The Italian design revolution

ADI DESIGN MUSEUM - Milan (MI)

included
From Tuesday 11.11.2025 to Thursday 22.01.2026

Alchemy. The Italian design revolution is the first complete retrospective dedicated to one of the most revolutionary and visionary movements in 20th century Italian design: the collective Alchemy Studio, active between 1976 and 1992. Founded by Alessandro and Adriana Guerriero, the group was able to break the rules of functionalist design with an approach ironic, poetic and provocative, by placing the creative freedom and the symbolic dimension of the object.

The installation, designed by the Alexander Warrior, takes the form of a visionary devicea real “raft-carpet” that invites the audience to an emotional immersion in the utopian spirit of Alchimia. Design, art, architecture, music and fashion intertwine in an eclectic and experimental language, testifying to the will to redeeming the ornament, celebrating the unexpected and transform the everyday into aesthetic and narrative ritual.

Exposed over 150 works, including furniture, objects, drawings, canvases, photographs and videos, recounting the complexity and cultural impact of the movement, with contributions from big names such as Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass, Andrea Branzi and Michele De Lucchi. A project that is completed with a 400-page catalogue, produced in three languages, which restores all the depth of alchemical thought: design as freedom, storytelling and interpretation of the world.
