The Fortress of Bard hosts an unmissable retrospective dedicated to Fernando Botero, one of the most celebrated artists on the international scene. In collaboration with 24 Hours Culture and the Fernando Botero Foundation, The exhibition offers an extensive excursus on the production of the Colombian artist, who died in 2023, highlighting the extraordinary technical versatility and thestylistic uniqueness. Entitled Fernando Botero. Monumental technique and edited by Cecilia Braschi, The exhibition investigates the complementarity of drawing, painting and sculpture, revealing how each expressive medium has contributed to the construction of a unmistakable artistic language, focused on the’enhancement of volumes.
The exhibition route presents over one hundred works, divided into seven thematic sections: from still life at nude, from portrait at gender scene, from dialogue with art history at social denunciation, to the celebration of popular culture. Alongside famous bronzes and oil paintings, there are unpublished e juvenile works rarely exhibited, as well as surprising drawings on canvas e watercolours applied to the back of the support to enhance the delicacy of the stroke.
Some of the most significant works include Self-portrait with Archangel (2015), cycles on Leda, Venus, The Rape of Europa, and the intense Earthquake (2000). The public will also be able to admire preparatory sketches and appreciate the rigour of a coherent poetics, matured over more than sixty years of activity. A tactile section inclusive enriches the exhibition, making it accessible to all.
