Antonio Calderara: Rites of Passage

The Marcello Morandini Foundation is hosting one of the most comprehensive exhibitions in recent years dedicated to Antonio Calderara, enigmatic figure of the’20th century Italian art, through a route that documents with 49 works his transition from painting notional to theconcrete art. The works come from the Antonio and Carmela Calderara Foundation, the Larkin Erdmann Gallery AG and prestigious private collections.

The exhibition explores a profound artistic transformation, in which Calderara gradually abandons the representation of reality to achieve a rarefied painting made of sharp surfaces, transparent glazes and essential colour relationships. The path culminates in art where the light is constructive and spiritual principle, in a synthesis between shape and colour reflecting an almost asceticism of artistic making.

An interesting section is dedicated to the relationship between Calderara and the music, with works that evoke correspondences between sound and colour, in an ideal continuity with the research of the historical vanguards.
