The exhibition explores the night as a space for technical experimentation, scientific reflection and poetic introspection from the early 17th century to contemporary times. Ordered thematically, in a sequence intended to respect the chronological succession of the different cultural seasons, the exhibition invites a reflection on the fascination of the night as a place of ambiguity, mystery and discovery, in a constant dialogue between rationality and sentiment, science and visionary.
From the 17th-century research of Galileo e Maria Clara Eimmart in dialogue with works by Johann Carl Loth, Giuseppe Antonio Petrini e Antonio Canovato the contemporary cosmic visions of Vija Celmins e Thomas Ruff. Ample space is dedicated to theRomantic and Symbolist 19th century and the Oneiric twentieth centuryworks where night is interwoven with transcendent visions and imaginations, such as the nocturnes of Victor Hugo, Odilon Redon, Franz von Stuck, František Kupka, Marc Chagall, Jackson Pollock e Joseph Cornell.
