The exhibition Appiani. Neoclassicism in Milan represents a unique opportunity to discover or rediscover the figure of Andrea Appiani (Milan, 1754 - 1817), considered the greatest interpreter of the Italian Neoclassicism. An official painter of the Kingdom of Italy, Appiani was able to translate, with elegance and refinement, the ideals of theEnlightenment and the instances of the age Napoleonicoffering the city of Milan an artistic heritage that still defines its cultural identity.

Through a route that brings together over 100 worksfrom prestigious public and private, Italian and foreign collections, the exhibition reconstructs the master's entire artistic parabola. Visitors will be able to admire portraits, studies, frescoes and historical paintings that illustrate his ability to fuse classical rigour and modern sensitivity. Royal Palace thus becomes the beating heart of an itinerary that allows one to understand the richness of the Neoclassical Milancultural capital in dialogue with the great European courts.

The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Milan - Cultureit is realised in collaboration with leading institutions such as the Louvrethe Grand Palais in Paris, I Châteaux de Malmaison et de Bois, the Brera Art Gallery e Villa Carlottawith the curatorship of Fernando Mazzocca, Francesco Leone e Domenico Piraina.
