Guided walk along the Viale delle Cappelle del Sacro Monte di Varese, a devotional path designed and built during the 17th century. Two kilometres long, on a cobbled surface, this historic path features fourteen chapels whose statues and frescoes inside represent the Mysteries of the Rosary. The climb ends in the village with a short entrance to the Sanctuary.

  • Lunch break from 12.30 to 14.30

In the afternoon, entry and visit to the crypt of the Sanctuary and the Baroffio Museum.
The Crypt is the ancient and first church built on the mountain in the 9th-10th centuries, and is the heart of the history of this place, rich in artistic and archaeological evidence; the Baroffio and Sanctuary Museum houses works from the Sanctuary, Baron Baroffio's collection and a collection of contemporary sacred art with works by Guttuso, Matisse and other 19th-20th century artists.

  • Cost: Free event with compulsory booking reserved for subscribers. Each Museum Subscription holder may bring along a non-subscriber who will enjoy the guided tour free of charge (the non-subscriber only has to pay for the Museum entrance ticket).

The walk along the Viale delle Cappelle is only recommended for those who are used to walking or have no walking problems. Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for cobbled ground are required. It is recommended to bring a water bottle, dress in layers and organise arrival by public transport (bus line C).
