Museo Bagatti Valsecchi
includedThe Bagatti Valsecchi Museum is a house museum born out of an extraordinary collecting affair at the end of the 19th century, involving two brothers, the Barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi.
From the 1880s, the two brothers devoted themselves to the renovation of the family home, located in the heart of Milan - today the centre of fashion quadrilateral - and began collecting paintings and objects of applied art from the centuries XV and XVI, with the intention of creating a home inspired by the dwellings of the Lombardy 16th century.
A strikingly modern project, also driven by the desire to integrate the technological innovations of the time into the house - heating, running water, electric light - in a harmonious dialogue with the utmost aesthetic refinement.
After the death of Fausto and Giuseppe, the house continued to be inhabited by the heirs until the 1974, year in which the Bagatti Valsecchi Foundation, to which the artistic heritage collected by the two brothers was donated. Twenty years later, in 1994, opened to the public the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, one of the best-preserved house museums in Europe and among the first great expressions of the Milanese design.
Today, the museum's collections, preserved in respect of the 19th century layout, unfold room after room: important antique paintings by masters such as Giovanni Bellini, Bernardo Zenale e the Japhete dialogue with pastille caskets, wooden furniture and glass or ceramic artefacts, creating an immersive and evocative journey.
