The museum was created from an original nucleus left by Sigismondo Ala Ponzone (1761-1842), and is a collection of the highest calibre as he was himself, even before being a collector, a naturalist and preparer.
In later years, other collections donated mainly by local naturalists were added.
The proposed itinerary is divided into sections. It begins with the historical section, consisting mainly of the original Ala Ponzone core, and continues with a systematic passage through the individual disciplines: mineralogy, palaeontology and zoology, to arrive at a reading of our territory. The natural environment and in particular the urban environment make it possible to introduce a highly topical theme applied to the local situation: a reflection on the conservation of biodiversity . The space dedicated to didactics, which is interdisciplinary and available to all sections of the museum system, leads instead to a reflection on how man uses the resources of his territory, linking up with the theme of the river/city relationship that has characterised the history of our community.
Inside the museum is the Small Library
It was created to stimulate interest in reading from an early age and to introduce the most significant children's books with a focus on the quality of the texts and illustrations. The books are divided into age groups from 0 to 13 years and include the most diverse literary genres.
