MUSEO GIOVANNI PIAMARTA

Brescia (BS)
included
Piamarta Museum. Doing good the good. St John Baptist Piamarta (1841-1913). Established in 2011 on the occasion of the canonisation of Giovanni Battista Piamarta (1841-1913) and recognised by the Lombardy region, the Museum bears the name of the founder of the Artigianelli Institute, the Remedello Sopra agricultural colony and the Queriniana printing-publishing house.

It consists of the rooms in which the Saint lived and the neo-Gothic shrine that housed his body at the end of his life. It is a museum house, part of the large complex of buildings and spaces that make up the Artigianelli Institute, created by Piamarta in 1886 to initiate young people into work through vocational training. Direct evidence of this training activity remains in a continuity of use that makes the rooms of the museum not simply rooms used to preserve the historical memory of the founder, but ones that continue to live and breathe the original spirit as they are still used for their original purposes.

Located within the monastic cloister of the brolo of the ancient women's abbey of San Salvatore - Santa Giulia d Brescia, since 2011 included among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Institute, the Museum, the Sanctuary and the entire area complete the vision of the coenoby, allowing for a better understanding of its functioning and its transformations from the last quarter of the 19th century to the present day.
