CASTELLO DI ZAVATTARELLO E MUSEO D’ARTE CONTEMPORANEA

Completely built of stone, with a wall thickness of up to 4 metres, Zavattarello Castle is a titanic building that constitutes a formidable medieval architectural complex, an impregnable fortress that has withstood numerous sieges. The terrace and tower offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding area: the green countryside, the cool woods, the hills with the other castles in the area - Montalto Pavese, Valverde, Torre degli Alberi, Pietragavina. Since 2003, the rooms of the Zavattarello Castle have been home to an ever-growing and evolving collection of contemporary art, which is just one of the attractions offered to visitors who by the thousands each year come to visit the medieval fortress. The museum exhibits works of Italian art from the second half of the 20th century to the present, as well as older paintings painted by Count Giuseppe dal Verme, owner of the castle in the early 20th century. The Museum is named after the artist Count Giuseppe dal Verme and his wife Titina Gavazzi, as an act of homage to their great love for art and for this fortress, donated to the citizens of Zavattarello by their heirs in 1975.
