MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO “PAOLO GIOVIO”

Hosted in the historic setting of Palazzo Giovio, once the residence of the family of the same name, the Paolo Giovio Archaeological Museum offers an articulated journey through the millennia. The exhibition route opens with the Prehistory and Protohistory Section, where human evolution introduces the findings from the Como area, arranged chronologically.

The dialogue with the past continues at the nearby Palazzo Olginati in the Roman Age SectionHere, the refined architectural testimonies evoke the splendour of Pliny the Younger's Como. Great importance is also given to the Collecting, thanks above all to the bequest of Alfonso Garovaglio; this section houses heterogeneous treasures, from Greek vases to the precious Egyptian collection, consisting of around a thousand pieces. Finally, the Medieval Lapidary accompanies the visitor between the portico and the monumental staircase, where medieval and modern tombstones complete the historical narrative of the city.
