Castle
CASTELLO RICETTO DI DESENZANO

The castle that dominates the town, possibly built on a Roman castrum to defend against barbarian invasions, was rebuilt during the municipal period and reinforced in the 15th century, when it enclosed 120 houses and a church dedicated to St Ambrose. All that remains of the imposing construction are the walls, with four towers along the perimeter, and the entrance keep with the remains of a drawbridge. At the end of the 19th century, it was converted into barracks, in operation until 1943. The restoration of the walls makes it possible to visit the patrol walkway and the ascent to the entrance donjon, from which one of the most beautiful views of Lake Garda can be enjoyed. Exhibition and conference rooms have been created in the former officers' quarters.
