The Museum of the Treasury of the Cathedral of Vercelli is located in a wing of the Archiepiscopal Palace, and tells the story of the diocese and the Cathedral of St. Eusebius, the first bishop of the city and of Piedmont, over thousands of years. The exhibition itinerary consists of several rooms on the ground floor, some of which were frescoed in the 16th century, joined by two other rooms on the first floor. The museum tour The exhibition includes works of jewellery, liturgical furnishings and fittings, textiles and paintings. Each work on display relates to important moments in the history of Vercelli, not only on a religious, but also on a social, political and artistic level, for the long period from the 3rd to the contemporary age. Various themes are addressed: the city as a privileged stopover along the Via Francigena thanks to the presence of the Cathedral and its precious Crucifix dating back to the year 1000; the power of Vercelli's bishops in the medieval and renaissance periods; the devotion aroused by the presence of reliquaries; the offshoots of Vercelli's artistic patronage manifested in metal, textiles and paintings. Contemporary art is represented by the presence, in a dedicated room, of the sculpture EHONCEO by Giorgio Sambonet, which refers not only to the excellence of Vercelli, but also to the possibility of investigating private faith through art and the current vision of the world through sculpture.
