The Fort of Vinadio is to be considered among the most significant examples of military architecture in the entire Alpine arc. Construction work on the fortress, ordered by King Carlo Alberto, began in 1834 and was not completed until 1847. Despite a brief interruption, from 1837 to 1839, a true masterpiece of engineering and military technique was realised in just eleven years.

Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, the Forte Albertino di Vinadio represents one of the most important examples of military architecture in the Alps.
Commissioned by King Charles Albert, it was built between 1834 and 1847, with an interruption between 1837 and 1839. In just eleven years, one of the most imposing fortifications of the time took shape, an authentic masterpiece of engineering and military strategy.

The structure is developed along a route of about 10 kilometres on three levels and divided into three fronts: Upper Front, Attack Front and Lower Front.

Today, the Fort hosts numerous cultural and immersive experiences.
The multimedia route Mountains in Motion invites you to explore Alpine civilisation in time and space: an interactive journey through history, nature and culture that tells of the profound intertwining of man and the mountain environment.

Inside the Porta Neraissa is the permanent exhibition Winged Messengerswhich, thanks to digital installations and audiovisual content, retraces the history of the Fortress' Military Dovecote.

Since 2017, the public can also experience the Vinadio Virtual Realitytwo virtual reality stations that offer an innovative and immersive way to explore the fortification.

The Fortress is also family-friendly: with the project Mammy that's cool!proposes itineraries Family and Kids Friendly designed to help children discover the history and culture of the place in a fun and accessible way.
