Milan in the 1960s

The exhibition MILAN IN THE 1960S. From Lucio Fontana to Piero Manzoni, from Enrico Baj to Bruno Munari at Palazzo delle Paure, celebrates an extraordinary decade in which Milan has consolidated its leading role on the international cultural scene.

Edited by Simona Bartolena and realised by ViDi Cultural in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecco and the Lecco Urban Museum System, the exhibition completes the cycle Paths through the 20th century. This programme explores the Italian cultural scene of the 20th century.

The exhibition presents 60 works of artists such as Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Enrico Baj, Bruno Munari, Arturo Vermi, Ugo La Pietra, Gianni Colombo, Grazia Varisco and others. These artists illustrate the revolutionary research that emerged in Milan in the 1960s, a decade of great ferment and creative change.

Unlike the previous exhibitions in the cycle, this one focuses exclusively on Milanthe beating heart of Italian culture at the time. While Pop Art was flourishing in Rome and Arte Povera was emerging in Turin, languages oriented towards perception and minimal sign were developing in Milan.

The exhibition also highlights lesser-known artists who are exceptional for their innovative research, highlighting also experiences outside the Brerasuch as the Workshops in Sesto.
