The museum displays relics, photographs, films and models illustrating the city's defence systems and the military events of the siege of Turin in 1706, as well as historical events before and after the War of the Spanish Succession (1700-1713).
The museum consists of two exhibition halls from which one can access the system of counter tunnels of about 400 metres, which run 6 and 14 metres below the city floor. The tunnels constituted the advanced underground defence integrating the fortifications of the Citadel, where Pietro Micca died detonating a mine to prevent an attempted intrusion by besieging French soldiers.
