Fear eats the soul

MAO - Museum of Oriental Art - Turin (TO)

included
From Thursday 2.05.2024 to Sunday 1.09.2024

On the façade of the Museum of Oriental Art (MAO) waves a white flagbut it is not a sign of surrender or resignation, but rather a manifesto of courage. Work of the artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, carries the phrase Fear eats the soul inviting reaction against the paralysis of terror. Tiravanija, known to engage viewers in reflections on contemporary dynamics, uses the flag as a recurring symbol since the 1990s.

The work exhibited at the MAO, inspired by Fassbinder's film Fear eats the soul, highlights conflicts, racism e lack of acceptance of the other. The centre of Turin will be involved with banners displayed under the arcades of Via Posoliciting reflections on environmental crisis, labour e social conflicts.

The Pinacoteca Agnelli will also host a work by Tiravanija, Untitled (Tomorrow is the question)which invites Sociality through table tenniswith tables bearing the phrase in the languages of the Turin communities. This recalls the J.K. Ping-Pong Club by Július Koller, promoting participation and interaction.

Tiravanija, a representative of relational aesthetics, creates encounters and sharing with the public, often through culinary art. Her work has been exhibited in major international museums and won theHugo Boss Prize in 2005.
