The MAV - Museo dell'Artigianato Valdostano takes visitors on an ideal journey through the past and present of handicrafts
Valdostano: between memory, material, form, gesture and beauty, invites us to look beyond the object-symbol to discover the variety of forms, gestures and visionary capacity. Craftsmanship has a history stretching back thousands of years and carries within it a wealth of symbols, knowledge and identity values of which the objects are repositories.

The MAV - Museo dell'Artigianato Valdostano di tradizione (Museum of Traditional Valdostan Craftsmanship) has renewed its layout in 2022 with a complete overhaul of its spaces and contents to offer a new vision of craftsmanship. The new museum aims to tell the story of the millenary handicraft culture of Valle d'Aosta through an investigation of the handicraft heritage and a reflection on the value of tradition today. The new tour consists of five thematic areas that complement each other. The first section, dedicated to memory as the "connective tissue linking the individual to the community", sees the exhibition of the entire Brocherel Collection, whose objects are described as producers of memory. The second room, dedicated to matter, investigates the close relationship between territory, material and craftsmanship. The tour then continues with form, the fruit of the encounter between man and material, and gesture, i.e. the pure manual skill of which craftsmen are the bearers, an immense intangible heritage of knowledge. The tour concludes with a look at the avant-garde, at the creative capacity to go beyond one's own time, and at beauty, as an individual, objective or social aesthetic judgement of objects.
