The rooms of the MAR-Regional Archaeological Museum present significant evidence of the presence of man in the territory of Valle d'Aosta, from Prehistory to the Middle Ages. The recent layout allows the visitor, once past the room dedicated to collecting, to access a chronological itinerary covering a wide span of time; with the new layout, interactive multimedia supports have been set up and many of the showcases have been equipped with drawers that can be used by users for educational purposes. The prehistoric and protohistoric periods are represented by artefacts from the first human settlements in the territory of Valle d'Aosta and the anthropomorphic stelae found in the Aostan megalithic area of Saint-Martin-de-Corléans. The spaces on the theme of the Roman era include displays dedicated to Augusta Prætoria, funeral rites and epigraphy, cults, public buildings, the domestic dimension and personal care. A space dedicated to the advent of Christianity and the Middle Ages closes the chronological journey.
Until autumn 2024, the MAR becomes a participatory museum site: META\MAR Metamorphose.
Accessibility: The Museum is accessible to the physically disabled in wheelchairs. The rooms of the archaeological section are equipped with a pedo-tactile path, Braille panels for the blind and magnifying glasses. Copies and reproductions of artefacts are offered below the showcases in special cabinets for tactile experiences. A wheelchair and two pushchairs for children are available on request.
