As food for thought on the occasion of Lent and Easter, the Diocesan Museum this year offers the exhibition of the Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Giovanni Bellini (Venice 1438/1440 - 1516), from the Vatican Museums: the precious panel was originally the cymatium for the imposing Pesaro Shovel made for the high altar of the church of San Francesco in Pesaro (and now in the Musei Civici), one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian painting, which marks the artist's maturity and seals his role as the leader of the Venetian painting school. Four contemporary artists, LETIA Letizia Cariello, Emma Ciceri, Francesco De Grandi and Andrea Mastrovito, are confronted with the theme proposed by Bellini's panel: the Lamentation is in fact a masterpiece that transcends its historical dimension, and urges the sensitivity of people of our time to death, pain, mercy and in particular the value of care.
On the occasion of this exhibition, the Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini offers subscribers a special appointment with Bellini's masterpiece, with a guided tour designed exclusively for them:
