Divine creatures is a photographic project conceived and curated by Adamo Antonacci, which tackles the theme of disability using the language of art. It consists of ten shots taken by Leonardo Baldini, capturing masterpieces of art history from the 15th to the 20th century referring to episodes in the life of Christ, where the characters are interpreted by people with disabilities and their families, who become the real protagonists of the works. Starting from the works of art, real photographic sets were set up with accurate scenography and skilful direction: a complex and sophisticated work made possible thanks to the involvement of professionals in the field.

Only the people photographed are not professionals: the “actors” involved in bringing to life the characters painted in the paintings of the great masters of the past are in fact boys and girls with disabilities and some of their family members who have allowed themselves to be involved in a dialogue with artistic expression and the themes it embodies, intensifying its meaning.

These are not real tableaux vivants The shots were followed by hours of meticulous post-production, which, however, never changed the faces and expressions of the “actors” who were asked to interpret and experience the scene first-hand and not just pose. This made them real protagonists of the work of art and not a passive tool to achieve its photographic reproduction.
