Diocesan Museum Carlo Maria Martini - Milan (MI)
includedFrom Tuesday 20.02.2024 to Saturday 11.05.2024
On the occasion of Lent and Easter, the Diocesan Museum offers an exhibition of the Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Giovanni Bellini, taken from the Vatican Museums. Originally part of the Pesaro Shovel, the painting depicts Christ, Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus and the Magdalene in an intensely emotional composition, focusing on the delicate intertwining of hands.
The exhibition, curated by Nadia Righi, Fabrizio Biferali and Giuseppe Frangi, also presents works by four contemporary artists who confront the theme of the Lamentation with modern sensibilities. This masterpiece transcends its historical dimension, touching on universal themes such as death, grief and pity, and drawing attention to the value of care. Through its emotional power, the Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Bellini stands as an invitation to reflection during the Easter season, offering a profound look at the human and spiritual condition.
