The work, executed in 1545is extraordinary for its quality and special purpose: Aretino is both subject and commissioner, donating the portrait to Cosimo I de' Medici to obtain protection, a bold self-promotion move for the time. Titian represents Aretino at the pinnacle of success, combining status and intimate knowledge.

Two significant printed volumes, including the Lustful Sonnets of 1525 and comedy La Talanta of 1542complete the itinerary, offering a comprehensive view of the eclecticism of Aretino and its interaction with art. An exploration that goes beyond the painting of Titianrevealing the deep connection between the intellectual and the visual arts in the 16th century.
