Visit to the exhibition and Royal Merenda of the 18th century at the Caffè degli Argenti

Paintings, silverware, splendid porcelain services from all the major Italian courts tell - in the exhibition "Sovereigns at the Table. Lunches served in the Italian Courts", on until 28 January at the Reggia di Venaria - the fascinating and curious story of the lunches of popes, princes and kings.

The exhibition also takes us on a fascinating journey to discover the first exotic drinks and their arrival in Italian courts. Among these is the hot chocolate introduced into the Savoy Court in the early 1600s, accompanied by an elegant ceremonial and served at the table with precious objects such as silverware, crystal, porcelain and chocolatiers.

A ritual that we propose again, at the end of the exhibition visit, in the traditional Merenda Reale: a mouth-watering tasting of hot chocolate, prepared according to the traditional 18th-century recipe, and 'bagnati' - typical Piedmontese biscuits, to be savoured in the elegant spaces of the Caffè degli Argenti.
