AM Club | Raphael: Journey through the Renaissance
Milan (MI)

Saturday 06.06.2026 at 11:30-13:00
Among the masterpieces housed in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana is the Preparatory cardboard for the School of Athens by Raphael Sanzio, commissioned by Pope Julius II. It is the largest preparatory drawing that has come down to usa fragile yet eternal work that, after a rigorous philological restoration, is now enhanced by a new, impressive display. The hall that houses it thus becomes the culmination of a journey through the great masters of the 15th and 16th centuries - such as Botticelli, Bramantino, Bergognone and Luini - culminating in the genius of Raphael. A choice that reflects the thinking of Cardinal Federico Borromeo, which saw Urbino as the artist closest to the perfection of Greek art.
